Zhejiang International Maritime College, located in Zhoushan Archipelago New District, a beautiful island city near Shanghai, is a government-funded, vocational and technical college, featured in specialties or specialty groups as Marine Technology, Naval Architecture, Port Management and Maritime Tourism,among which the first two have been awarded the prominent specialties at the provincial level.

The college was launched in Feb. 2004, and officially opened in Feb. 2006, approved by Zhejiang Provincial Government and filed in the State Educational Dept. In 2008, the college passed the evaluation of the educational quality of the vocational college organized by the State Educational Department. In 2010, the college passed the on-the-spot verification of the crew's training agency organized by China Maritime Safety Administration. As per the demand from the authorities concerned, the college is to establish itself as a state-level model vocational college during the period of the Twelfth Five.

The college has an area of 500 acres, with its construction area of over 110,000 square meters, and 6200 full-time students on campus. The college has an affiliated secondary school, Zhoushan Marine School, and seven sub-branched teaching units: School of Marine Technology, School of Naval Architecture, School of Port Management, School of Maritime Tourism, School of Adult Education, PE & Art Center, and Dept. of Social Science. boasts its first-class training facilities, having over 80 training rooms and laboratories on the campus and over 130 off-campus training bases, its value reaching 50 million yuan. The college is running 25 crew training programs approved by China MSA, among which the BRM, ERM and ECDIS rank the top level in her counterparts.

The college sticks to the guideline of "taking root in Zhoushan, serving Zhejiang and facing home and abroad", fully implementing ISO 9001:2000 quality management system and China mariners' education and training quality management system. The college values cooperation and communications with enterprises and corporations home and abroad, having established long-term collaboration with Tung’s Group of Hong Kong and IMC Group Singapore, being one of the maritime institutions with which Hong Kong Shipowners Association has set up communications and cooperative network, Taking the Maritime Education Consultative Conference as a useful platform, the college has established stable co-operation with over 30 well-known shipping companies home and abroad.

Importance is also attached to cooperation and communications with other colleges and universities home and abroad. The college is co-running the Master Program of Transportation Management with Shanghai Maritime University, developing exchanges and cooperations with Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz and Strathclyde University UK. The college has over 6000 full-time students and over 3000 correspondence students. Up till now, over 1800 students are serving in more than 20 shipping companies.
